statement to unity’s Runtime fee
Hey Vizora Community, Studios, and Unity
In solidarity with other developers and studios, we find it crucial to address Unity’s recent policy changes concerning the implementation of a Runtime Fee starting in January 2024.
Unity has been a great platform for the development of our upcoming game, providing not only a user-friendly engine with great performance, but also connecting us with the Unity Community. This community consists of amazing individuals who generously share their knowledge and assets for fair prices on different Marketplaces.
However, with the introduction of the Runtime Fee, we now face financial reconsiderations that significantly impact not only developers but also studios, publishers, and us. As a company that will operate under a free-to-play model, these changes prompt us to evaluate our game development approach using the Unity Engine in the future.
Creating a game, especially for solo devs or smaller teams, demands a significant investment of time and effort.
Each decision, from selecting the tools up to getting assets that align with the vibe of the game, significantly affect the sustainability of the game and our ability to continue creating exciting projects. While Unity provides features which are very important for the development of our envisioned game, we are considering a change to an alternative game engine, even if it potentially delays our initially planned release which has been estimated for Q2 2024.
We appreciate the work of Unity employees who developed the engine and spoke up to their executives regarding this decision. We hope that our collective voices will influence a reconsideration of these changes. Our dedication to delivering high-quality games with immersive experiences remains the same with, and without Unity.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
