Lua was already deep into her work as an artist and forger when the spirit first found her. People close to her started calling her Vulcana, after the god of fire and forge "Vulcan", because she treated gear she would forge like something that might become alive someday. She sketched figures while already checking where the joints would land - thinking about movement before she had finished the line. The spirit had never seen someone approach a canvas that way and decided without much fuss to stay and watch over her.

The spirit had always kept a careful distance from the people it watched. With Lua it never managed to do that fully. Over time the spirit came closer and closer until one day - Lua woke up with fox ears she hadn't had the night before and a tail that knocked three paint jars off her desk. She panicked, and it took her a while before she stopped checking the mirror every five minutes or knocking things over by accident.

The ears and tail stayed, and eventually also the people around Lua got used to it. It took her a while to understand what happened, and the spirit will stay with her permanently. She didn't mind, somehow it always felt familiar anyway, like something she recognised long before she had a name for it. The spirit still leaves a small gear hidden in each finished piece. Lua finds it every time but keeps it in her crafts as the signature of the Fox Spirit.
